Objectives of Department
- This department focuses on addressing the need for adequate shelter across the municipal area, and providing better quality living environments.
- Provision of housing, roads, water and electricity to the needy and assisting applicants in their applications for subsidies.
- Verifying correctness of information or details of applicants in all applications, including transfers.
- Ensuring that all basic services are provided in informal settlements.
The Municipality aims to deal with the current backlog of those not having access to clean and piped water inside the yard. This will be done by upgrading the existing infrastructure, extend reticulation, upgrade bulk and construct new reservoirs to improve its level of provision in service delivery. Access to clean water is closely associated with development and community health in particular.

Overview
The vision of the Nkomazi Municipal Infrastructure Development is to be the trusted provider of integrated and smart public infrastructure and property management solutions that transform the spatial landscape and improve the quality of life for Nkomazi residents.
The new mandate and strategy of the Department are the priorities focused on the following key programmes: property management, infrastructure delivery, facilities and maintenance management, economic development and job creation.
Nkomazi Municipality offers support to issues of land affairs through Planning Services, which encompasses building control and spatial planning. The municipality also has a Human Settlements section that deals with management, administration of the housing waiting list, as well as project management of housing infrastructure commissioned by other government entities.
